Reggae

Reggae music is one of the most famous and popular jamaican musical expression. It has become a major musical genre that carries its own culture, thanks to its international success. Reggae music was born at the end of the 60's. It is the result of several encounters and crossbreedings: Although Reggae is an evolution of Ska and Rocksteady, traditional caribeen music such as mento and calypso are considered to be its roots, but it has also been influenced by Rythm&Blues, Jazz and Soul music (since American music used to be very fashionable in Jamaica then). It has also been influence by African music, Rasta trend, and Nyabinghi chants. This mix of genres does not stop here, since nowadays many styles take inspiration from it, incorporate or cover Reggae style all over the world.
Reggae is now a universal music, as its main ambassador Bob Marley once dreamed about it.
